Words per minute (WPM) measures how many words you can type in one minute. A "word" is standardized to five characters, so WPM = (correct characters / 5) / minutes. Raw WPM counts all typed characters including mistakes, while net WPM only counts correct ones. Accuracy is the percentage of correctly typed characters. Many users ask "wpm monkeytype typing test" or "typing monkey wpm test"; our wpm test reports both net and raw values like monkeytype typing.
Start typing and the timer begins automatically. Each character is checked against the target sentence and highlighted for correct or incorrect input. Press Tab to restart at any time. When the test ends, a results screen shows your WPM, raw WPM, accuracy, and a WPM-over-time chart so you can track your progress. Type monkey and watch your speed grow; type test sessions are short and addictive like monkeytype test rounds.
Focus on accuracy first; speed follows naturally. Keep your fingers on the home row, use all fingers, and avoid looking at the keyboard. Practice daily in short sessions and gradually increase difficulty. Aim for 95%+ accuracy before pushing for higher WPM. Monkey typing rewards consistency, so type monkey drills every day.
